Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas & Under Budget

Finding it hard to stay within your budget for Halloween? Looking for ideas for awesome costumes that won’t break your bank account? Let me know what you think of these ideas.

Why not head to the nearest Value Village or Thrift Shop and look for items to create a Traveling Doctor costume. It’s perfect for little ones and with good picks, the suit could be worn again for Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s. Things you could look for:

Black suit (your child’s size)

Hat, Fedora

Doctor’s kit

When I created this costume for my first son, the total cost was $10-$15.

Up to the time my son’s started to create their own costumes, and even to this day, we used the local thrift shop or Value Village. Second hand stores are filled with great costume ideas and finds.

The easiest costume to create for your little one is a ghost. This was the very first costume both my sons wore when they were a year to 18 months old.

Find an old white pillowcase or buy a new one, they are inexpensive. Carefully cut a hole in the end that is sewn together, the hole needs to be just big enough for your little one’s head to fit through.

Place the pillowcase over their head. Measure where the arm holes need to be, after you have removed the pillowcase from your little one, carefully cut the arm holes. Then measure the length. Using tape or glue, ensure the length of the pillow case will not trip your little on when they walk.

Use some white and black make-up for the ghost face. Apply some cold creme first, then use the black make-up around the eyes and mouth. Fill in the rest of the face and neck with white make-up.

There you have it, an awesome costume that is easy, inexpensive and fast to make. You can dress your little one for Halloween without spending a penny.

Here is another example. You can easily make a “Pirate Boy” costume using a few things that you have laying around the house:

Old slacks or shorts

Old vest

Bandana or scrap cloth

Cardboard sword

Hat made from paper

This is where you have lots of fun and you get to be creative with your child. Let you imagination run wild. An old T-shirt or button up shirt cut the sleeves to make it look ragged. Cut the legs of the old slacks to look ripped and ragged. Use an old belt as a sash or a scrap piece of fabric. Tie the bandana or scrap piece of cloth on your child’s head or make a paper hat.

When Halloween is over, save your costume creations in a special costume box that you can save for future years. Your kids will have fun re-using and reinventing the costumes next Halloween.

Have fun this Halloween. Make the celebration a family event. There are lots of ways to create costumes without spending a fortune.
